Board of Directors Meeting
July 12, 2005
Present: Bill Tomasini (presiding), Kerry Deal, Ruben Garcia III, David Kilburn, David Perez, Don Reynolds, Tracy Tabin, Shannon Wyndsong, Mike Hughes (recording)
Guests: Robert Kinports
Call to order: 6:35 PM
1. Issue: Minutes – Ruben moved to accept the July minutes as written. David P seconded. Minutes approved unanimously.
2. Issue: Treasurer’s report –Kerry moved to accept the treasurer’s report as submitted. David P seconded. The treasurer’s report was approved unanimously.
3. Issue: Pride Week – There was general rejoicing at the success of this year’s Pride Week. Robert and Ryan were thanked for the tremendous job they did it making it such a great series of events. Robert suggested setting up an event fund for Pride for next year in anticipation of cash-flow requirements if we bring another expensive headliner.
4. Issue: Waiter’s Dinner – The Waiter’s Dinner Committee is anticipating a 10% increase to this year’s budget for the event. David K moved that the board approve $500 for printing and postage of a save-the-date postcard. Ruben seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
5. Issue: I Madonnari – Ruben moved that we reserve a square for the annual I Madonnari street drawing event and approve a budget of $125 for fees and supplies. Tracy 2nd. The motion carried unanimously.
6. Issue: Center Renovation – Plans for completing the center renovation project were discussed. David P agreed to follow up on finding an electrician to finish the lighting and outlets.
7. Issue: Pride Events DJ – There was discussion about the behavior of the DJ’s “helpers” at the Pride dance and whether GALA should use their services in future.
8. Issue: Youth Group – The DA did not file charges against the woman who threatened the group facilitator and made other threats against GALA and the group. A summons to appear in court was served to her in an effort to get a restraining order. In a court hearing the Judge will determine if a restraining order will be granted. The restraining order would require her to keep away from board members, group members, and the facilitators of the group.
